History of the Thriller Genre

The thriller genre is another type of genre. The difference with this particular genre is the fact that it has different conventions compared to other thriller genres. Thriller genre’s mainly seek to create enigmas for the viewing audience and always has them wondering what is next to happen. One of the positive things about the thriller genre is the fact that it generally has interest as there is usually a protagonist and an antagonist involved.
The reason as to why it was considered as a thriller film is because it met most of the conventions of the genre. For example it had suspension within it; it made the audience wonder what is going happen next. It also raised enigmas and the audience asking questions as to why his friends would falsely imprison him. It was proven within the film that there was a lot of drama and emotions played within the thriller. There was also an antagonist and a protagonist. Later on within the story, the enigmas were established. Throughout the cause of the film, there were also many other conventions which backed the fact that the film was a thriller. This was known to be- the first thriller film invented due to the success of it.
Over the years, the thriller genre then begun to emerge and expand. By this I mean that over the years, the thriller genre has begun to develop sub-genres. For example over the years the thriller genre alone has managed to emerge with other genres such as: action thriller, crime thriller, disaster thriller, psychological thriller, political thriller, spy thriller, supernatural thriller and also conspiracy thriller.
Nowadays there are many thriller films that we have an opportunity to see in the cinema. For example, the five most recent thriller films that have come out in the cinema is: Act of Valor, Chronicle, Contraband, Gone and Ghost Rider.

When was the first thriller film?
The first ever thriller film to come out is a film called “The count of Mont Cristo.” This film was first launched in the year 1844. This is the first thriller film that was ever launched. It was about a young man which was falsely imprisoned by his jealous “friends.” He then manages to find a way to escape and he also uses a hidden treasure to extract his revenge.
Conclusion
Thriller films have made a dramatic change over time and it has become a lot more popular. They have become very iconic and favoured by its audience. The thriller genre has now become a favourite for a wide range of audience in the way that it entertains people. I personally believe that the thriller genre is good the way that it is because it engages with the audience and keeps them interested throughout the cause of the film. It has the audience asking questions and makes them also think about the film that they are watching.
